Sri Lanka (Colombo to Tangalle)

I am a hopeless romantic. When you mention Sri Lanka, my mind harks back to the time of Ceylon; the beautiful island with breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and serene tea plantation.

We started our  trip of the south east end of Sri Lanka in Tangalle.  From Colombo to Tangalle by private car, it took us almost 3.5 hours to get to our hotel.  After 2.5 hours, we broke the journey at the town of Matara and lunched at the charming Dutchman’s Street Cafe.  Situated inside the Matara Dutch Fort with a view of the Indian Ocean, this casual cafe made for a nice stop.

This charming restaurant offers a selection of western dishes and there is indoor and outdoor seating.  A short walk down from the restaurant and you are greeted with a lovely view of the Indian Ocean.

From Dutchman’s Street, it was another 1 hour drive to Tangalle. We arrived at the Anantara Peace Haven hotel and were rewarded with another magnificent view of the ocean.

This lovely resort hotel did not disappoint. With all the facilities one expects from a luxury resort hotel we settled in quite quickly.

This resort is laid out with various blocks facing the ocean.  The only drawback is during the monsoon/ raining season, getting oneself to the main block will require a buggy or a very large umbrella.
