Takayama via Kamikochi
An hour and a half drive from Matsumoto is Taisho Pond. It is really worth the visit if you are in the area. From there, it is an easy and pleasant 1 and a half-hour walk to Kamikochi. No uphill or downhill hikes! The walk takes you via the pond and through some charming woods.

Taisho Pond

Taisho Pond from a different perspective
Arriving at Kamikochi, you are greeted with an Alpine feel. As we were travelling in early October, the Autumn leaves were just beginning to turn. The air was cool and fresh. Quaint shops selling refreshments lined the small street. There are bathrooms available here.

The view from Kamikochi
We unfortunately had to end this hike at Kappa Bridge/ Visitor Centre as we needed to make our way to Takayama to spend the night. The drive was around 1 hour from Kamikochi bus terminal to Takayama.
